Most funeral tributes have a small card attached, and knowing what to write can feel harder than choosing the flowers. The good news is that a card does not need to be long. A few sincere words are all that is needed.
Tips for writing your card
- Keep it short. One or two lines is enough.
- Speak from the heart. Write the way you would speak to the person, or about them.
- Use their name or what you called them, such as Mum, Grandad or a nickname.
- Sign it clearly, so the family knows who the flowers are from. For a group, write something like “From everyone at…”.
Messages from close family
Forever in our hearts. All our love, always.
Mum, thank you for everything. Sleep tight. Love always, your children.
You were our world, Nan. We will miss you every day.
Messages from friends
With love and fond memories of a wonderful friend.
Gone but never forgotten. Thinking of you all at this sad time.
Thank you for the laughter and the memories. Rest peacefully.
Messages from colleagues or neighbours
With deepest sympathy from all your friends at…
In loving memory of a kind and much-loved neighbour.
If you cannot find the words
“With love” and your name is always enough. The family will be comforted simply to know you are thinking of them.
